My Budget-friendly trip to London & Scotland
Hi Loves,
Hope you all are having an amazing spring time so far! I had the most beautiful start to spring this year as I went for a trip to London, England and Scotland in the start of April and it was such a mind blowing experience! Travelling always rejuvenates me and this time the calmness and natural beauty of England and Scotland mesmerized me while the bursting city of London pumped some confidence. Budget Friendly vacation
So now let me tell you how I planned my My Budget-friendly trip to London & Scotland and how you can use these tips to plan one for you to the same or any destination in the world.
Flight
Few rule of thumb to get the best flight deals are as follows:
- Fly on weekday to get cheaper price
- Compare rates across all carriers
- Plan and book ticket a few months ahead
- See alternate airports for cheaper prices
For my trip I booked 4 months ahead by comparing multiple airlines and flew on a weekend which saved me almost $600 for the family! Try it out and see!
Hotel
Few rules of thumb to get the best hotel deals:
- The earlier you book, the better deals you get.
- The more distance you go away from the main attractions, the cheaper it gets.
- Try airbnb and rentals to get better deals than hotels.
- Try to keep a balance between price, quality and distance. Do not let go of everything for a cheaper price, read reviews before booking.
On my trip to London I booked an airbnb which was a 20 min train ride from downtown 3 months back and I got a good deal. I checked that public transport is easily available in the location, so I took it. The hotels in big cities like London are very costly and very small; rentals like airbnb are much better options.
Food
Few rule of thumb to save on food
- Visit a grocery store and buy ready to eat sandwiches, fruits, biscuits etc to help you keep munching and is cost-effective.
- Visit a few good restaurants for the experience, for the rest try smaller takeaway places, food trucks or where locals are going. Research ahead on the area.
- Try shareables to divide in the group.
I tried some great takeaway places which I researched ahead of time. The food was yummy but not costly. Big cities like London can be very expensive on food, research cost effective options beforehand, there are a lot you can find!
Sightseeing
Few rules of thumb to save on sightseeing are as follows
- Check transport options beforehand to save time on trains and buses and avoid wait time.
- Check on city passes which can be cheaper and give entry to multiple destinations.
- Book online entrance tickets ahead to avoid the line and also get a little cheaper price.
- Check sites like groupon to see if there are any ongoing offers on attractions.
I booked the London pass on my trip which was great as it covered a lot of attractions at a discounted price. I also used trains and buses a lot as I planned them ahead which saved money.
