A Romantic stroll through Paris

A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of Life. -Thomas Jefferson

Hi Loves,

I received a lot of loves and your gracious comments on my blog post of 1st day experience in Paris. If you have not read it yet, you can read it here. Everyone has been waiting for my next post on Paris, so here I am with a romantic stroll through Paris, hope you will all like it.

The Quote I have put above has an important resemblance to my 2nd day’s experience here in Paris – The Focus is “Walks around Paris”. You best chance of hearing the city’s heartbeat is to just walk through the neighborhoods among the people who live and work here. Paris is breathing, thriving: blissful proof that a city can love the trappings of the contemporary world without forgetting – or fossilizing – its past.

 je t’aime – Montmartre

The best place to start a romantic stroll through Paris is where we started our 2nd day – Montmartre. Perched on a hilltop, Montmartre is a world apart from the rest of Paris. Montmartre has a exclusive ambience with boutique painting stores, picturesque sidewalk cafés and talented sketch artists. We started our journey at the stunning Sacré-Coeur Basilica where the martyr Saint Denis was buried. Just like the interior is illuminated with many candles giving it an aura of spirituality. same is the outside which gives you an jaw dropping view of the whole city of Paris. We started walking outside holding hands through a quite cobbled street with small roadside cafes and leaving behind the view of the whole City Of Love. One of the crepe place got our attention and inside was so artistic. The owner and her girl managed the whole place and being the only customer that time, the girl Nancy made us feel like home although with broken English 🙂 She served one sweet crepe on which they put liquor and set it on fire!!

 The live portrait

With our tummy full we continued our walk, a few steps away are the open-air art gallery of Place du Tertre. There were so many people just standing on the street and painters making beautiful portraits of them. I could not resist my excitement and joined the cue. My painter was a French gentleman dressed in a French attire with a nice hat. The picture was ok, not a 100% resemblance but the feeling was heavenly. Continuing our walk we went past several museums displaying works by Renoir, Picasso, Dalí who made this neighborhood an artists’ colony. We took time to wander the stone-paved lanes and discover old churches, hidden squares, little bakeries, and inspirational ateliers. There are so many things to do here that you could spend several days exploring Montmartre.

The Ramp Walk

Still cherishing the thoughts, our next destination was a LIVE FASHION SHOW!!! Yes how can I go to Paris and not see a fashion show. Again thanks to my husband who booked us a spot beforehand . The fashion show happens in a the beautiful mall ” Galeries Lafayette “, Every Friday for certain months (Check this link). It was so mesmerizing to see a live fashion show where beautiful models were doing ramp walks with wonderful new collections. It was elegant and felt like I am seeing Fashion TV live!!

The Monalisa

Out next stop was the world famous Louvre museum. The Louvre is the world’s largest museum and houses one of the most impressive art collections in history. The Louvre’s collection includes Egyptian antiques, ancient Greek and Roman sculptures, paintings by the Old Masters and lot more.  Scrolling through all these, my heart really started pounding when I saw the most famous work – Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” . It enchanted us with her enigmatic smile. It is covered with bullet-proof glass and flanked by guards stating its importance and to answer your question in mind – Yes I really felt that from whatever corner of the room it looked like she was staring at me!!  I also loved the armless beauty of the “Venus de Milo,” and “Winged Victory,” .

The Love Locks

We then started walking along the banks of Seine river towards Pont Des Arts to see the famous love locks on the bridges. For those who do not know the history – for ages lovers used to come to this place to put a lock in their name and throw the keys in the river. Unfortunately the locks are no longer allowed on the bridges. We still saw a few on the sides, but the environment and the walk was so romantic. We shared an ice cream sitting on the bridge just staring at the sunset and the boats passing by, again Paris proved why they call it City of Love!!

The Fashion Stop

Our last stop for the night was Champs-Élysées, the house of all best fashion brands in the world.  Banana Republic, Abercrombie Fitch, Zara, Lacoste, Marks & Spencer,  Louis Vuitton and a lot more. The Sephora store there is the largest I have ever seen. I was so impressed with Louis Vuitton store that I was almost about to buy one purse!! Unfortunately the store was almost closing and I could not decide which one to take – so next time!! The best store in this street is however a totally different one named “LADURI” for a Trademark delicacy of Paris – Macaroons. The store is so beautiful will all colorful macaroons displayed such is the delightful taste. I can still feel the taste as I am writing. With my heart full we ended our night in a classy Parisian restaurant Chez Element.. The decor was retro , ambience was dreamy and food was top class. We ended celebration my birthday again with candle over desert!!

Paris is wonderful indeed. You have perfectly described the beauty of Paris with amazing pictures.
Those macarons look so yum and mouth watering. We missed the Lovelocks on our last visit which was a bit hurried. Hope to get back and spend some leisurely time there.
